Ernst & Young has always strived to streamline best practices in the facility management industry. Organising annual tree plantation drives, adopting bio blocks in washrooms, installing solar panels, e-billing systems and RO plants, etc, has helped the company reduce environmental impact at large. Certain recycling initiatives resulted in sending 20 tonnes of food waste for vermicomposting and converting 50 tonnes of paper into handmade paper. The ban of plastic bottles in the office saved money and water considerably.

Commenting on adopting change, Yadav states, “Generally, there is a tendency to resist any change without knowing and experiencing its full benefits. We faced similar challenges. However, by undertaking customer engagement proactively, sharing benefits of the initiatives as well as taking on larger objectives that contribute to the organisation and environment enabled us to successfully launch a better transport solution for employees. We continued to improvise transport routing to ensure even the last 5% of users are accommodated.”

Several initiatives can be planned by an organisation based on their vision, business model and location, contributing to initiatives that are on similar lines with environment sustainability. These could be energy projects, water and power conservation programmes, transport solutions, control on carbon emissions, etc, and can be achieved by using tools and technology for overall development of the business and economy.
