The Airtel Global Headquarter office (3-star Bureau of Energy Efficiency) is a unique piece of architecture that epitomises quality and aesthetics. It has a water body in its campus that spreads across a diameter of 60ft; with 590 plants placed across the building to decrease the PPM; and the 4,633kg of paper that’s collected from the campus each year, is recycled and used as stationery. The design of the command centre at Manesar was built up eight years ago with ‘me’ spaces that are now moving to ‘we’ spaces to make way for collaborative working. This means the facilities team not only saves space and rentals but also manages an easy maintenance procedure.

The FM team has formed SOPs of different processes. “We have standardised processes and policies. The HR and facilities work together towards employee safety, comfort and productive environment. Sustainable initiatives have been an integral part of facilities management in Airtel’s journey. We have won several awards for our sustainability efforts and CSR initiatives. In turn, we have gained broad insight and established a foundation for adopting sustainability into green building facility management practices and understanding the importance in the built environment, and also improved the quality of facility operation and maintenance,” says Chhabra.

Various energy saving projects – UPS optimisation, installation of energy-saving device ‘Enisaver’ in all the small AC units, changing of air-cooled chillers with water-cooled chillers, LED installations across major sites, energy load surrender and energy, using water from STP, and reusing as much as possible, has led to savings in cost as well as energy to a large extent.
