Managing multiple premises with a thin team needs a structured approach, and Grover shares the strategy that helped the team achieve this successfully. “We created a common agenda, where most suitable workplace practices are compiled under a single framework and all employees contribute by auditing. The practices incorporated are those which have been developed on the foundations of ‘lean management’ concepts . The end result we have is a proactive control along with both tangible and intangible benefits.”

“Another challenge is maintaining a balance between the design and maintenance teams. In our setup, we have tenants of reference to be an ever-evolving infrastructure template which keeps incorporating fresh elements as we learn with experiences. The template when applied for both refurbishments and newer projects has eliminated gaps between operation and design,” explains Grover.

Considering the varied nature of tasks, a structured and periodic performance evaluation of task team, ensures that no one loses sight of the organisation and team goals. Effective use of balanced scorecard for optimal measurement of performance, projects and inventory keeps the facility manager abreast. He believes that adherence to values, strong fundamentals, robust MIS and tracking the projects as a regime will never fail a facility manager.
