With the belief that efficiency and productivity are closely entwined with each other, at Sharekhan, the AC levels is maintained as per ambient temperature and the entire office is retrofitted with energy and cost saving LEDs. They also monitor electrical phase to ensure that proper power factor is maintained. Additionally, as a contribution to go green and save energy, they ‘celebrate’ earth hour on the first and third Saturday of every month from 8:30p.m to 9:30p.m.
As the role of facility manager is changing drastically, one of the major constraints today is getting desired manpower. Getting talent to this industry has been a major problem and a major reason is lack of awareness, especially considering the fact that involving facilities managers at the early design stage can potentially reduce the efforts for maintenance during the operational phase. Sarkar believes that a facility manager in the design phase plays an important role in spatial planning and energy analysis too.
“In this industry, increased workload affecting work-life balance is another concern. It is common to find a facility that wants to make the best out of the limited resources present. A manager faces pressure from everyone in the facility to perform at the level of high FM services. With few resources, one has to find the most effective way to perform,” states Sarkar, who is also the honorary board member with iNFHRA.
