The role of a leader is to help and guide the team they’re hired for, allowing them to understand their contribution and importance to the company objectives, believes Chauhan. “We created platforms, where teams are allowed to express their views, drive small projects and take complete ownership on these ideas. As a leader, I ensured that there is scope for a team member to experiment with different/out-of-the-box solutions. In our limited scope and area, we, as a team, ensured that we bonded well with service providers in achieving set SLA. This required developing services providers along with team members. I feel we have come a long way to give our customers the best,” says Chauhan.
In resolving challenges, all teams work together as one, knowing they have similar objectives as a business group. All teams have forums, where ideas and suggestions are discussed and implemented, keeping the business interest in mind. Environment is conducive for teams to approach anyone and challenges are considered as opportunities and motivation for growth. There are ample efforts take through CSR on sustainability at the organisational level. However, in retail FM, the focus is on alternate power solutions like wind and solar energy; plantation opportunities in stores, warehouses and distribution canters; smart solutions in warehouse transportations; use of daylight; sustainable procurement practices and special awareness programmes to store managers and roping service partners to contribute to the initiative.
