The FM scenario in a bank is different from that of the other industries, says Bose. Facility managers handle facilities in multiple locations with different geographical and logistical constraints. Cost plays an important role as the sizes of these facilities are not big enough to implement a Centralised Facility Management system. Apart from that, the logistics and varied topography is a daily challenge that the FM encounters at IndusInd.

Working towards a green and eco-friendly organisation, IndusInd tries to find and implement ways to prevent wastage of resources. With motion sensor lighting systems, Bose expects to prevent wastage of electricity and save the company around 5-7% of the total electricity cost. Bose’s team is planning to drive a green project, wherein solar energy will power ATMs. This will not only help save electricity cost but will also enhance the extension of banking facilities to people in rural area, where power is inconsistent.

Since maintaining the same standard and quality is a pre-requisite for IndusInd, it becomes difficult to obtain the standard materials at all locations. Often, materials need to be supplied from bigger cities, resulting in a drastic increase in cost of transport and maintenance. “The decision for setting up our branches and office locations is business driven. Hence, we have limited scope to pick and choose our properties, where all modern amenities are already provided for. So, we have to adjust our FM methodology accordingly,” adds Bose.
