While elaborating on some of the best practices adopted by Infosys, Kamath explains, “We measure operational data at a granular level. Once you have data at a granular level, it helps prioritise initiatives and implement right measures, and evaluate impact of any initiatives. Always remember, you can only manage what you measure. We have building automation systems and continuous monitoring by experts to ensure efficient operation for the lifetime of equipment/systems. Clear efficiency parameters need to be defined in the system and the operational data needs to be regularly compared to ensure high efficiencies.”
“Collaboration and sharing of data will help us progress faster towards efficient buildings. It is essential to build capacity and improve the overall quality of workforce involved in building operations. People in IT are highly skilled but the manpower handling building operations is mostly unskilled and, in most cases, a lot of manual operation is involved that is inherently one of the causes of inefficiency. Automation will drive the future of operations in the industry and is a key to ensure efficient and effective operations,” summarises Kamath.
