Oscar D’Mello
D’Mello has been working on constantly improving energy efficiency at Network 18 by bringing changes in the electrical panels without major replacements, which has led to about 10-15% energy conservation. “Cost efficiency plays a major role in any facilities department. Personally, I recently experienced retrofitting success in a 150-seater project with employee satisfaction and safety in place, by recycling products. Space planning is an important yet often overlooked part of business success for offices. Creating a safe, functional and efficient space can increase productivity, save money and even limit your liabilities,” says he.
Transitioning and integration of all sites under the same operating system, expanding internal preventive maintenance programme, remodelling the existing properties, and bringing old deferred operating system up to speed are some of the strategies that were adopted for better operational efficiency. Additionally, the following steps took Network 18 closer to green building management and sustainable facility management — reduced water, energy and material use; improved indoor environmental quality; increased use of environmentally preferable products; increased reuse and recycling; integrated systems in buildings; reduced environmental and energy impacts of transportation and consideration of the effects of the building on human health.
“The facility department is not only responsible for cost savings in a larger organisation but also offer a forum to discuss issues pertaining to energy, water and power conservation, which, in turn, benefit an organisation in the long run,” adds D’Mello, accounting for a successful running of facilities at the Network 18 group.
