Gerard D’Mello
D’Mello has been in the facility, administration, security and liaisoning spaces for the past 33+ years and have gained varied experience across industries and sectors like pharma, entertainment, finance and telecom, to name a few. Over the years, he has had exposure to various cultures driven by both promoters and professionals across finance and telecom industries. He has enjoyed opportunities to follow and implement best practices and also set benchmarks within the Reliance ADA Group, with whom he worked for seven years. At Reliance Big Entertainment, he set the benchmark of revising space utilisation, thereby increasing the seating capacity by almost 33% in the same space. It was achieved purely by redesigning the space allocation across the hierarchy so as to enable optimum use of space available.
D’Mello was also one of the core team members at the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, where he mastered maintaining workspaces across different verticals — Capital, Infra, Power, Communication and Big Entertainment. “At ADAG, we had 2,700 offices across various cities in India. The number after this exercise was brought down to 2,200, thereby saving approximately Rs. 100 crore per annum in rent, security, housekeeping, electricity, etc,” shares D’Mello.
During his tenure at Reliance Communication, a STP with capacity of treating 20 lakh litres of water daily was successfully established. “We could, at any given day, treat six to seven lakh litres of water, of which 80% could be reused for gardening, fire services, washing and WC,” he concludes.
