Given that buildings account for almost 40% of global energy use, Khera and his team, as a priority, reviewed all the company’s existing assets and system into a sustainable framework, including making life-cycle assessment’s and undertaking life-cycle building management. By implementing this the company has been able to successfully reduce the required workforce as well as the operating cost on all assets with an added advantage of increase life cycle of the asset.

He also adds that, “Being in the manufacturing setup, the value of the space utilised for production is very important and directly hits the bottom line of the company. Also knowing that we are moving towards a working environment consisting of virtual or mobile workers, we have worked on a solutions like flexible workstations, distributed workplace strategy,  shop floor re-design, etc. This has enables us to efficiently bring down the cost and also has aided in space optimisation.”

After starting work with a manufacturing company Khera now realises that the sector is still not organised as the IT/ITES setup and where the facilities management or administration is already being seen as the normal maintenance department.  With a deeper understanding of how the domain operates, Khera has successfully been able to change the perception of the management and from being only the maintenance department, his team has developed a reputation of a key strategy department where they give their suggestions and point of view starting from designing the shop floor, cost optimisation methods in the manufacturing environments etc.
