Bhatt is responsible for managing multiple GSS facilities globally, including in its ambit Corporate Real Estate Management, Facilities Management, Security & Employee Welfare Services. With over 24 years of experience, he is responsible for establishing location feasibility as well as championing the design and delivery of new facilities across GSS locations. He has also played a key role in creating a global ecosystem to establish best-in-class CRE/FM practices across GSS sites globally through standardised capability toolkits and playbooks.

He opines that it is important for facilities managers to stay open to new ideas and concepts. “When focusing on real estate and FM, managers are tempted to press ahead with short-term savings targets, seeking ‘quick wins’ without fully understanding the impact on the level of support provided to the core business. Experience shows that although some costs can be reduced in the short term, achieving significant, sustainable savings is complicated and needs careful planning. A source of great savings is effective demand management combined with working with suppliers in a competitive environment to achieve mutually agreed objectives,” he explains.

Bhatt trusts that the practice of sustainable facilities management is rapidly evolving with the increasing interest in the discourse of sustainable development. He adds, “Though buildings are given a Green Star rating by the IGBC and GRIHA in India, once occupied, these buildings often remain eco-conscious. Responsible facility managers must ensure that they take a holistic approach to running and maintaining buildings such that they remain sustainable. This, in turn, bestows added benefits of a healthy workplace and motivates employees, converting into increased productivity.”
