Amit Aurora, Partner, GroupDCA.
  • What is the inspiration behind your design firm’s name?

Founded in 1996, GroupDCA is a New Delhi-based multi-disciplinary architecture and interior design studio. The studio’s expertise lies in creating unique, specialised spaces that eschew the cookie cutter approach and instead delve into context.

  • What is that one design book/movie you found inspiring?

In which Annie gives it those ones and The grand Budapest hotel.

  • In what ways does your personality reflect in your designs?

In all the ways. My designs are a reflection of myself and an architect’s vision and values shines through with each new project.

  • What inspires you in your day-to-day architectural practice?

I find everything around me inspiring. I pick up on objects and experiences that happen in everyday life and use that as a source of inspiration.

  • Who is your favorite architect?

Myself.

  • Do you have a signature style?

No, at groupDCA, no two buildings are designed the same. Every project is treated individually, with observations that are most appropriate to its identity, vision, business format, target clientele, code of ethics, site location and budget.

  • The one design philosophy you swear by?

Less is more. Remain true to yourself and the context

  • The one design quote you find timeless?

When you keep taking away everything that is non-essential from a design that makes a good design.

  • A hobby that sets you apart?

I like to play golf but it’s not something that sets me apart.
