Renovation of the country’s first vodka bar
Set in the middle of Lutyens Delhi, the Aura bar in Claridges was a game changer for the capital of the country ever since ages. As the country’s first vodka bar whose establishment dates back over half a century, the renovation of this bar aimed at reviving the vintage vibe that the previous generation enjoyed in their teens. This concept demanded lively colours, plush furnishings, and embellishments with designer stones- all coming together to make a statement of superior luxury.
Opulent interior design
Aura’s interiors showcase an opulent design aesthetic with royal purple furniture, which is
reminiscent of the British era. The highlight of the trendy space is the bespoke, purple ceiling lined with gold. The Bar was an old-school club planned with a stage, a sitting lounge at two levels, and an outdoor deck- every space dressed up with wooden flooring by Opulo, as a part of its recent renovation. The entire floor area is bathed in walnut wood in square patterns that sync with the palatial aesthetics, retaining the regal look. The expansive deck, furnished with wood, simulates the feel of warmth and serves as a major outdoor activity space.
Punctured with large openings, the bar maintains a strong connection between the interior and the outdoors, with glazed apertures that lend the views of greens. The soft lighting creates a smooth and flowing ambience, balancing the starkness of the vibrant colours used in the décor. A series of linear LED lights demarcates the passageway as people move towards the interiors, while the wall sconces wash the floors at the entry doors. The interiors are splashed in regal shades and tones with a remarkable bar counter spanning the room and forming the focal point of the space. The wallpaper with an interesting pattern along with wall art, lighting fixtures, and overhead services defines the classic aesthetics of the bar.
Showcasing the brand
Claridges, the most celebrated brand has a maximalist design palette, demanding lush & lavish materials, bold colours and attention-grabbing elements as conversation starters. With the furnishings exuding an imperial look, the walls stand as a black-and-white contrast that balances the brightness of colours. The custom-made tables are in marble with a metallic base, while the high chairs are covered with royal cushioning. The cushioning ties into the monochromatic expression of the bar counter, and ensures design continuity throughout the space. The utterly transformed interiors are a testament to the power of combining bespoke design with a professional’s vision and a brand owner’s unbridled enthusiasm.
Elegant Seating
Seating at Aura bar is created keeping in mind the live events and the need for acoustics. High stools, curvilinear sofas and chairs create a vibrant setting while a large screen forms the backdrop for the stage. Furniture pieces were chosen for their perfect scale and mix of elegance and quirk sitting on rugs.
The 3000 square feet area is thus transformed into a dynamic, yet soothing space that blends the rich ambience of a lounge with the vivacity of a vintage vodka bar. As a result, the bar creates a welcoming and glamorous invitation to indulge in nostalgia, sway to live music or simply chill.
