In an attempt to address the issues arising from the major tectonic shifts that our industry is going through, Wipro Lighting in collaboration with Commercial Design magazine organised a series of webinars that explores several topics pertinent and relevant to the industry today.
The first edition of the series was titled “Top 5 Drivers for a Great Day at Work” and was conducted by Ramakrishna Puranam, Workplace IoT Specialist, Wipro Lighting. He started of the session with some insightful statistics from a survey conducted by Linked In, which affirmed the changes taking place in the sector, especially after the Covid-19 outbreak.
The survey revealed that:
84% of respondents indicated some impact to their regular work activity
45% say this is somewhat or very likely going to be a more permanent shift
52% are doing more calls on phone or video
43% of respondents are now working remotely and
54% of senior leaders reported that their companies are implementing virtual events as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
After the successful transition of workforces from offices to WFH, there’s been an ongoing debate about the irrelevance of large office real estate. Given this, Puranam tried to delve into the question – Why do we need to come to office? He states that employees want to work in an environment where they are being set up for success, where they are given the tools they need to do their job well and they are within a system that is supporting them. He then went on to list out the five super drivers for a great day at work, which as per research, are: planned meeting, unplanned/adhoc meetings, teamwork, individual focused work, relaxing and taking breaks. Along with this he explains how technology can aid organizations in their transition back to workplaces as it is a great enabler in simplifying choices, providing user autonomy, and making fact-based decisions.
