Q: What was the brief from the client? And how did you achieve the same intertwining of your style?
Saba Kapoor: Post the pandemic, a number of people are choosing to work out of co-working spaces instead of private offices. Moreover, there is a huge trend in collaborative workspaces sprouting up around the country. One such co-working space is Spring House, which has been tastefully conceptualised by Nivasa. Located in Grand Mall in Gurgaon, Spring House is a two storeyed co-working space that has been designed not as a typical office. The clients wanted a space with a luxurious and warm aesthetic that blurs the boundaries between work and relaxation.

Q: If you had to name the design style used, what would it be? What were the inspirations and key concepts for the development of the project?
Saba Kapoor: With its warm corners and plush design elements, this avant-garde office feels like an extension of an opulent home. While it has a homely design aesthetic and showcases an old-world charm, it is also highly functional. From state-of-the-art amenities to acoustic excellence, this co-working space has everything you need from a modern office.

Q: What were the difficulties, or first setbacks encountered?
Saba Kapoor: The biggest challenge was to design a space had a homely design aesthetic but is also highly practical.
Q: What were the construction techniques and the principal materials used in the project?
Saba Kapoor: Principal materials used are wood, cane and metal.

Q: Explain the use of colours and/or other details to add value to the design.
Saba Kapoor: A glass door welcomes guests to a large space comprising a number of rooms meant for different purposes. Spring House offers versatility in layouts such as private nooks for the individual who wants to cut off from the rest while working, stimulating private conference rooms, brightly lit shared desk spaces, and informal meeting areas. Effortlessly balancing functionality and style, Spring House’s interiors feature exquisite chandeliers, potted plants, luxe soft furnishings and decor pieces. In keeping with the hospitable vibe of the space, a neutral palette with pops of colour was selected. Furthermore, the space is replete with carefully curated artworks to make it more engaging.

Q: What is your favourite element of design in the project?
Saba Kapoor: The informal seating area of the Spring House has been designed to look and feel like a sumptuous living room. It exhibits Nivasa’s exquisite furniture pieces. Muted hues, intriguing decor pieces, spectacular lighting fixtures and arch details give this area a sense of warmth. As large community spaces can sometimes encroach on the sense of privacy and individual space, Nivasa made sure they balanced out the large spaces with smaller corners where people could tuck themselves away.

Q: If you had to describe the project in 2-3 words what would it be?
Saba Kapoor: Luxurious yet functional!

Q: One learning you’d like to take on to your next project?
Saba Kapoor: With Spring House, we were able to successfully bring together the technology infrastructure and the warm and welcoming quality of a shared workspace. We would like to take this aspect on to our future commercial projects as well.
