While the consumer experience plays an important role in the design of commercial spaces, an integrated design approach that takes into account the rules of environmental sustainability is equally necessary. The move towards sustainable architecture starts from protecting the environment and preserving it for future generations.

Keeping these strategies in mind, the upcoming Mahagun Marina Walk in Greater Noida, conceptualised by GPM Architects, is designed as one of the first malls with sustainability adopted to its core. It incorporates rich vegetation and water bodies into the building, enhancing the microclimate with passive cooling, improved air quality, building energy efficiency, and the psychological benefits for its users.

The blueprint of the building is worked out keeping in mind the social and economic aspects of sustainability such as climate-responsive architecture, using renewable energy resources, and the use of recycled construction materials. This improves the standard of living and results in reducing the carbon footprint.

The landscaped piazza for the retail space is envisaged to have a water body, green pavers and planters that help in reducing the heat gain. Further, to create a cool environment, misting technique is used to create a microclimate for outdoor seating.

The design intent is to build a complex that blurs the line between interiors and exteriors and facilities a relaxing and engaging environment for the users by proposing a smooth interaction with nature.
