An American company specialising in the hospitality service through its online marketplace, Airbnb wanted a quirky yet functional workspace in line with their international design standards and brand identity.
Given the expansive nature of the site – a large warehouse, the design team had to figure out a way to best utilise the space as well as provide flexibility to the user and create an environment that fosters a sense of community. A wide array of spaces is curated to cater to the task at hand – whether it’s spaces that promote collaboration or areas that allow focused work. Different finishes and materials help define spaces based on their function.
By using multiple elements, such as tile, timber, paint, graphics and infusing patterns with a local context, the design team has created inviting spaces that encourage employees to actively engage with the different zones. An example would be the Chai Bar, which offers a meeting point for planned or ad hoc collaboration.
