  1. What is the inspiration behind your design firm’s name?

CEM Engineers started as an Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical service consultancy, with architectural services eventually being added to its list. Our first clients date back to 1994 when there were only a few comprehensive firms which offered all services. So the firm’s name was really need-based at that time.

  1. What is that one design book/movie you found inspiring?

Achyut Kanvinde: Ākār 

  1. In what ways does your personality reflect in your designs?

I firmly believe in simplifying complex design and engineering problems and doing what is needed.

  1. What inspires you in your day-to-day architectural practice?

My vision is to work and contribute toward the development of our societal and economic growth as a Nation-building activity.

  1. Who is your favourite architect?

In the Indian context, it is definitely Achyut Kanvinde.

  1. Do you have a signature style?

My work follows functionalism at its core. I believe that structures should be functionally viable before anything.

  1. The one design philosophy you swear by?

I believe that minimalism is really important, and any design should not be overburdened with unnecessary elements and components.

  1. The one design quote you find timeless.

“Less is More” by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

  1. A hobby that sets you apart?

As an athlete, I actively participate in various track and field events. I think that contributes to the disciplined approach to my professional life.

  1. A message to those few young practising Architects out there?

As designers, we must learn and develop skills constantly throughout our professional journey. Women operating in the construction industry must ensure that stereotypes are broken throughout the workforce when an opportunity strikes.
