Sameer Divekar, Executive Vice President, CP Kukreja Architects.

1. What is that one design book/movie you found inspiring?

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is one book that always inspires me.

2. In what ways does your personality reflect in your designs?

I am always inclined towards designing simple and functional spaces, which also projects my personality.

3. What inspires you in your day-to-day architectural practice?

Working towards simplifying and solving complex problems inspires me every day in my architectural practice.

4. Who is your favourite architect?

I like Santiago Calatrava’s designs.

5. Do you have a signature style?

I believe in contextual design more than having a signature style. Designing a building based on context is more important than replicating a specific style everywhere.

6. The one design philosophy you swear by?

I think ‘form follows function’ is the design mantra that I go by.

7. The one design quote you find timeless?

“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness” – Frank Gehry

8. A hobby that sets you apart?

I like reading when I am not working. Sometimes I try painting at weekends.

9. A message to those few young practising Architects out there?

Architecture is not about the architect but about the users and clients. Designing and delivering a building is teamwork; if you understand this, you will succeed.

10. Which design blog/page/handle do you follow avidly?

ArchDaily
