Ar. Hardik Pandit – Director – APICES Studio Pvt. Ltd. gives us top 5 workplace trends that will rule 2023 and shape the modern work environment efficiently

Consumer choices and technological advancements go hand in hand to offer innovative solutions. With focus on technological innovation and employee well-being, 2023 promises great opportunities. Let us look at the top 5 workplace trends that will rule 2023 and shape the modern work environment efficiently.

Ar. Hardik Pandit – Director – APICES Studio Pvt. Ltd.

1) Offices driven by artificial intelligence

There is no space where Artificial intelligence (AI) has not made inroads and the construction segment is no exception. AI algorithms can help in monitoring the IT parks by assessing and keeping a real time check on the total energy consumption throughout the campus. One can also monitor the building with AI technology in order to avoid any maintenance issues that may get highlighted over a period of time. AI systems also support in catering smart security and safety requirements which leads in an alert and proactive habitat.

2) Touchless technology spaces

Architecture supports the application of touchless technologies in many different ways. Sensors can be incorporated for doors to open and close. Use of facial recognition, virtual key or personal identification number (PIN), voice commands, gestures etc. can be incorporated for touchless experience in the commercial building premises. Hence, leading to healthy, reliable and secured practice with high performance and high demand in the post pandemic era.

3)  Call for green construction

Climate change is for real and its time that the construction industry acknowledges this issue and works towards minimising the impact. Green buildings are the first step in contributing towards abating fossil fuel emissions. Construction materials that provide low impact to the environment like gravel and permeable concrete are preferred during construction as opposed to concrete or asphalt. In addition to reducing the carbon impression and bettering the air quality, sustainable construction helps in saving money in the long run, which is a win-win for the building industry.

Green construction incorporates the use of inexhaustible sources of energy like solar power, wind power etc by the provision of solar panels, wind turbines etc. Incorporation of smart water systems leading to low fresh water consumption via careful selection of plumbing fixtures in design and reuse of waste water in landscaping leads to energy efficient green building.

4) Incorporation of Biophilic designs

Incorporation of biophilia in design is an approach to blend nature into the spatial experience creating healthy eco-environments within the buildings. Vertical gardens, green walls and green roofs are increasingly in demand in 2023. Also, maximising the usage of natural light as part of the design in commercial buildings is highly encouraged.

5) Exaction of modular buildings

‘Future’ is the benchmark when any commercial project is designed. Modular buildings also known as adaptable buildings, provide flexibility right from the construction stage as they are made off site in factory and assembled at the site. Due to the high impact in time and energy saving, modular buildings are becoming popular and are favoured over standard construction. With this way of construction, wastage of construction materials is reduced to great heights, making them a top choice to be used in 2023 and years to come.

Finally, innovation is the mother of growth and all the elements that we design are as a result of the want to always innovate. So, the design trend that stands out in 2023 is innovation which has to be seen in all of the above-mentioned pointers be it artificial intelligence, modular buildings, use of tech in spaces, green buildings or adopting biophilic designs.
