Steeped in outdoor greens; Studio Design Inc. designs Hotel Lakend Bougainvillea Bar

The restaurant strives to coexist with the surrounding landscape and create an ambience which is non-hurried and pauses for reflection

Alluring landscape

The spectacular views of the hills against the Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur, the myriad hues of the sky, and the textures of the foliage around set the precedent for the rooftop restaurant.

Hotel Lakend Bougainvillea Bar by Studio Design Inc. strives to coexist with the surrounding landscape and create an ambience which is non-hurried and pauses for reflection.

The restaurant, essentially used from early evenings to late nights, was planned to allow for various seating arrangements.

Focusing on bougainvillea

The design elements draw from the essence of the surrounding landscape, where characteristically the locally flowering bougainvillea becomes the central design element.

Tones and textures

The material and colour palate stay true to neutrals and textures of greys and black, with only the green of the foliage and the pink of the bougainvillea becoming the highlights.

The entrance is framed through green walls and a canopy of pink Bougainvillea.

Metal fin dividers screen off one part of the rooftop to form a seating area that can be given out for smaller gatherings.

Light grey walls are textured with green foliage acting as the backdrop in this seating area.

The backlit white quartzite bar is a simple solid structure under a metal canopy which merges into the sky. A bougainvillea wall forms the backdrop for the bar.

Thoughtfully crafted levels

The seating in the cabanas is designed as stretched tensile rope on metal frames, with loose cushions for comfortable seating. The remaining terrace is planned to create 2 levels. The lower level is designed as a built-in lounge seating amidst green planters as dividers.

Shades’ n shadows

The higher level is characterized by a series of individual metal-framed cabanas, which create dramatic shades and shadows on the terrace, adding to the drama and ethereal quality of the space.

Seamless connectivity

The design of the railing along the length of the restaurant was an important and unique feature of the rooftop – designed as a stepped-down green planter, it creates an invisible barrier to the space, allowing for seamless connectivity to the lake.

The rooftop simulates its spectacular surrounding through its own built-in green landscape, seeking to calm, quiet, and laughter with a surreal experience.
