Immersing in an insightful conversation with Commercial Design Magazine, the duo talks about the inspiration behind 'kaviar:collaborative', their design philosophies, architectural favourites, design inspiration and more...

Kasturi Wagh and Vineet Hingorani, Principal Architects and Partners, kaviar:collaborative.

1. What is the inspiration behind your design firm’s name?

kaviar:collaborative is a firm built on three very distinct identities. ‘ka’ stands for Kasturi Wagh, ‘vi’ stands for Vineet Hingorani and ‘ar’ stands for Architecture. Apart from what our individual identities and experiences bring to the table we personify and almost humanise architecture. We believe architecture is the manifestation of the five senses in a built form. It lives within us and takes the form of our alter egos. As such, architecture forms the third and the most important pillar on which we build this collaborative.

2. What is that one design book/movie you found inspiring?

There are a couple of them – we love Atlas of novel tectonics by RUR architecture. We love S,M,L,XL by Rem Koolhas.

3. In what ways does your personality reflect in your designs?

As a firm, we try to resonate our clients personalities in the homes that we design for them!

4. What inspires you in your day-to-day architectural practice?

Anything and everything. It can be a tiny seedling germinating in the corner of a window to a shiny new Benz on the road. Any instance that conveys a story is what inspires us.

5. Who is your favourite architect?

One of our favourite architect is Tadao Ando.

6. Do you have a signature style?

We don’t have a signature style yet. We love experimenting with different design styles and materials.

 7. The one design philosophy you swear by?

We believe Architecture is an extension of the outdoors within. We love blurring the boundaries between the built and the unbuilt. With every design we try to I still a sense of homage to the outdoors.

8. The one design quote you find timeless?

Less is more.

9. A message to those few young practising Architects out there?

Believe in yourself. Stay true to your design.

10. Which design blog/page/handle do you follow avidly

We love supraorder. We love the graphics and illustrations they put up.
