1. What is the inspiration behind your design firm’s name?
Our firm’s name, Domus White, was inspired by the Latin word “domus,” meaning house, as well as the idea of a blank canvas. We see every space, whether it be a home, office, or any other environment, as a blank canvas for endless creative possibilities. Just as a blank canvas can be transformed into a beautiful work of art, we believe that any space can be transformed into a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment that reflects the vision and style of its inhabitants. At Domus White, we strive to bring this philosophy to all of our projects, whether they be residential, commercial, or otherwise.
2. What is that one design book/movie you found inspiring?
“The Fountainhead”, based on Ayn Rand’s novel. The film’s central theme of artistic expression and individuality resonates with our philosophy of creating spaces that are one-of-a-kind and reflective of our clients’ personalities.
3. In what ways does your personality reflect in your designs?
Our designs reflect our bold and unique personalities, with a passion for creating expressive spaces.
4. What inspires you in your day-to-day design practice?
We are inspired by the challenge to create something new and unexpected every day. We strive to surprise our viewers with fresh and innovative designs that push the boundaries of what is expected.
5. Who is your favorite artist/ designer?
Anish Kapoor. We work a lot with stainless steel, but what Anish does with it is beyond our imagination
6. Do you have a signature style?
We strive to create bold and reflective objects that are instantly recognisable as a White Domus creation, using our signature techniques.
7. The one design philosophy you swear by?
To create unique pieces that people would consider their prized possessions.
8. The one design quote you find timeless?
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Merton.
9. A hobby that sets you apart?
Photography, as it helps us explore different perspectives and angles that can influence our sculptural work.
10. A message to those few young practicing artists/designers out there?
Create your own distinct style. Don’t follow a trend just because it’s popular. Instead, take inspiration from the world around you and use that to create something unique and authentic to you. Don’t be afraid to experiment and push boundaries, and always stay true to yourself and your vision.
