1. What do you mean by model breakdown structure?
Ans: Although BIM as a concept will be made of a 3D model as a single source of truth, and typical project requires multiple models to be developed basing on the project scale and BIM requirements. A model breakdown structure will clearly define how many files to breakdown the project into so that it can be easily managed.

2. Can you share information about facade integration in the BIM?
Ans: We perceive façade as one of the primary disciplines needed to be modelled as part of any project. Apart from typical design coordination and construction planning activities, BIM models developed for Façade can further be used into light penetration, solar heat gain analysis etc..

3. Being worked in multiple countries with varied penetration levels of BIM, what do you think, which country has the best policy in place and a country that is approaching on high speed?
Ans:
This would be a good point to dive into few years ago where BIM was still in its nascent stages…However, several countries have gone past the early stages of implementation…I primarily enjoyed the support ( financial & knowledge ) provided by Govt. Of Singapore to the industry laid a strong BIM implementation pathway.

4. How does BIM help in improving detailed design and how can it be actually implemented on-site? An example in terms of highway implementation will be appreciated?
Ans:
BIM for infrastructure as a concept works very similar to construction projects. The major difference here is to identify specific tools available for BIM for Highways and the standards & templates that are to be setup for the project. A good example to quote is one of the projects we worked with Public Works department Indonesia where we organized the entire BIM Modelling activity along with training and design development support for multiple highway projects. 5. Any Standard in preparation in India for BIM Standardization sir?
Ans:
It will be hard to define a specific standard for BIM especially for Indian market given the scale and various categories & teams typically involved. BIM Standardization should start at an organization level by understanding the specific goals and objectives.

6. Can you please guide, shall we use in office interior and to project management? How far shall we use. I mean what level of details?
Ans: BIM Uses for an interior project has major benefit in being able to accurately quantify the material and assets needed…I have personally noticed several 2D projects with major design and quantity variations that can greatly benefit by having a BIM Model in place…For any project LOD300 is sufficient for typical project management activities.

7. As lot of our consultants and contracts are not into BIM. We end up exporting all the drawings in AutoCAD which effects the quality of the final product. Is there any way where we can reduce the impact on the final product?
Ans: As mentioned in the presentation about BIM Levels of maturity…this is main disadvantage of working in Level1 BIM…My advice is always to push consultants to take the steps needed to implement BIM at a project level…It is important to influence your entire ecosystem to move into Level2 BIM so as to gain the real benefit of the models developed by your team.

8. What kind of training does management needs to take before BIM execution?
Ans: Management level training typically involves more at a conceptual level to ensure everybody realises the importance of BIM implementation. During this session we typically discuss organization level BIM Goals, Objectives, Planning a BIM Road Map , Contractual documentations etc..

9. What are the chances of data loss while converting scan to BIM?
Ans: Converting point cloud data to BIM Model currently is a highly manual exercise where the BIM Modeller traces over the point cloud data to create the model. I would say data loss is primarily is based on the modellers understanding of the project and also the supporting documentation available for the building

10. Short description on LOD 300, 400, 500 & 600.
Ans: LOD 300 – BIM for Coordination, Quantities and Planning
LOD 400 – BIM for Shop Drawings & Assemblies
LOD 500 – BIM for As-built Models
LOD 600 – BIM Operation & Maintenance Models
The definitions are varying from different sources. Which is the reason why we emphasize on the detail LOD Documents that are generated for a project to define the scope of work accurately
