1. What is the inspiration behind your design firm’s name?
Alkove-design was founded with the aim of providing design solutions that go beyond aesthetics and focus on crafting meaningful experiences for clients. Our name, inspired by the Finnish word “Alkove”, which translates to “alcove” in English reflects our focus on creating cosy nooks and tucked-away corners that cultivate a sense of comfort and privacy within a larger space.

3. In what ways does your personality reflect in your designs?
Ninada’s natural inclination towards creativity allows her to draw inspiration from diverse sources such as art, culture, and travel. This artistic flair adds a unique aesthetic appeal to our designs, prioritizing beauty, and style. Meanwhile, Komal’s pragmatic approach emphasizes functionality and practicality. She meticulously considers every detail, resulting in visually pleasing and structurally sound designs.
4. What inspires you in your day-to-day architectural practice?
As architects, we are constantly inspired by the world around us. Our designs are shaped by the people we meet, the places we visit, and the cultures we encounter.

5. Who is your favourite architect?
We are inspired by the legacies of BV Doshi and Zaha Hadid, who have made significant contributions to the field of architecture. Their ability to push boundaries and challenge conventional design thinking has inspired us to think outside the box and create innovative and unique designs.
6. Do you have a signature style?
We avoid adopting a signature style because it can limit our ability to personalize our designs according to our clients’ distinct needs and preferences. Our philosophy is to tackle various design challenges and craft spaces that are custom-made to meet specific requirements, resulting in exclusive and unparalleled projects. While we use natural materials extensively, each of our projects is characterized by its unique identity, free from any set design formula or template.

10. A message to those few young practising Architects out there?
As young architects, we recommend emerging professionals stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies by attending workshops, conferences, and seminars, and networking with other professionals. It is equally important for them to prioritize their personal beliefs and values while accepting projects, even if they may have a limited scope. This can help them establish a clear vision and purpose, which can ultimately lead to more fulfilling and successful careers as architects.

11. Which design blog/page/handle do you follow avidly?
Rather than following a specific blog/page/handle, exploring a variety of sources, including attending conferences, workshops, and seminars, and keeping an eye on the latest design trends on social media platforms is helpful.
