In this article, we will be talking to two experts from the industry to explore some of the key elements of designing an eco-friendly office that prioritizes sustainability without sacrificing style or comfort

Sustainable interiors have become an important consideration for designing modern offices. An eco-friendly office not only benefits the environment but also promotes the health and productivity of the employees. Sustainable interior design is all about making conscious choices when it comes to materials, energy use, and waste reduction. From choosing sustainable furniture to optimizing natural light, there are various ways to create a sustainable workspace that meets the needs of both the planet and the people who work there.

In this interview, we will be talking to two experts from the industry to explore some of the key elements of designing an eco-friendly office that prioritizes sustainability without sacrificing style or comfort.

Keith Menon, Co-Founder of Spiro Spero.

According to Keith Menon, co-founder of Spiro Sepro, says Eco-Friendly offices In the average office is cubicles are built out of various different elements based on provided budgets. The market has plenty of recycled panels and frames that are responsibly made; ensuring you’re asking for these and checking if any fit the budget is a great start. Figuring out ways to ensure that the space is designed to minimised air conditioning loss is an extremely important aspect of being energy efficient.

Automated lights that are movement-sensitive reduce energy waste. Organised electrical cabling and plumbing with detailed drawings kept for maintenance purposes reduce a lot of wastage, as in most places people tend to install new fittings as they don’t know where the old ones can be accessed from. Energy-efficient glass or glass film if you have a large facade will help in keeping the temperature under control. Sensor and pressure-controlled water taps help minimize water wastage. If you have the space, solar is a good way to manage your general lighting needs. However, ensuring all fittings are LED or better helps.

While Meghana Nimmagadda, Founder of Designtales LLP says, more and more companies look for ways to reduce their environmental impact, sustainable interior design is becoming increasingly important. Creating an eco-friendly office not only benefits the environment but also promotes the health and well-being of employees, making it a win-win situation. In this article, we’ll explore some tips and strategies for designing a sustainable, eco-friendly office. In Interior Design, sustainability permeates into multiple facets of the process. During the design phase, we plan to maximise the efficient use of the space and incorporate energy- saving lighting.

In the construction phase, we can use biodegradable/recycled materials and source locally to reduce the carbon footprint. And during the finishing stage, we can upcycle old furniture and choose low-emission finishes. Architects and designers all around the world are pushing the envelope when it comes to sustainability. Foster and Partners designed the Bloomberg head office to consume 73 per cent less water and 35 per cent less energy than an office building. Going forward, when designers and architects permanently embrace a sustainable design process, manufacturers will adopt sustainable practices as a new reality and not a mere trend.
