Commercial design has also been responding to the general trends in interior décor, as
well as the advent of new materials and their applications. These factors have further
revolutionised the interiors of commercial establishments. Embracing unique design
aesthetics has also helped them to present their image clearly and express their brand
personality in definite terms.

Geometric shapes and forms introduced through furniture not only add sculptural
interest to spaces, but can also help in problem solving in interior design.

Here are a few reasons why geometry and symmetry have gained popularity in
commercial interior design:

Visual Appeal
Geometric shapes and symmetrical patterns are visually striking and create an
aesthetically pleasing environment. They impart excitement and textures to a space.
Whether you want to make a bold statement, or evoke a meditative mood, you can do
that with the help of geometric patterns. You can also invoke any mood you want
with geometric patterns – playful, dramatic, old-world charm, glamorous, et al. By
combining geometry with symmetry, you can create a sense of visual harmony and
balance in a space that induces calmness.

Brand Identity

For commercial spaces, branding through design is essential. Geometry and symmetry
can be easily used to reinforce a brand’s visual identity. A well-designed space that
uses consistent patterns and shapes can also help in reinforcing the brand’s message
and create a cohesive and recognisable image.

Space Efficiency

Geometry can be brought into the interiors in many ways, not just through surface patterns. Geometric shapes can be employed in the efficient use of space, particularly in smaller areas. For example, a circular table can maximise space in a small room while still allowing for easy movement and conversation around it.

Psychological Impact

Each geometric shape has its own meaning and effect on the viewer’s mind. For
example, circles depict continuity and completeness, triangles indicate balance and
movement, while the mostly commonly found squares and rectangles represent
content and safety. An understanding of these characteristics helps create the desired
mood.

Symmetry has been shown to have a positive psychological impact on people, leading
to a sense of order and balance. This can help in creating a calming and relaxing
environment, particularly in high-stress or high-traffic commercial spaces.
So when combined with care, geometry and symmetry can have a wonderful
influence on all who experience them.

Overall, the use of geometry and symmetry in commercial interior design can create
an appealing and efficient space that reinforces a brand’s identity and creates a
positive experience for customers and employees alike.
