Rajkumar Kumawat, Founder & Principal Architect, Design Square.

1. What is the inspiration behind your design firm’s name?

At the time of the establishment of our firm, our design language focused on creating spaces using clean lines and cubes or squares, where the square’s fundamental geometry was retained while constantly exploring or creating new architectural styles. Thus, after seeing this cycle, we chose to call our company ‘Design Square’.

2. What is that one design book/movie you found inspiring?

The book The Fountainhead was a significant source of inspiration and knowledge regarding how we approached design.

 3. In what ways does your personality reflect in your designs?

I have always believed in spreading happiness. The notion is to continue to do so in my professional life by paying close attention to every requirement from the client, which distinguishes our projects from others in a unique manner.

4. What inspires you in your day-to-day architectural practice?

My architectural work is firmly rooted in deriving meaning from the exchanges and ideals I see between my entire family.

5. Who is your favourite architect?

Le Corbusier is one of my favourite architects to owing his design philosophy about how well-articulated design can impact social landscapes.

6. Do you have a signature style?

We typically do not follow a conventional style; instead, we establish a language that persists for a year or two, and the vocabulary modernizes with evolving times and circumstances.

7. The one design philosophy you swear by?

The one design principle our firm adheres to is to first lay out everything in a matrix and then shift cells upon every floor.

8. The one design quote you find timeless?

Design has the ability to communicate itself so elegantly in both words and reality. Being largely inspired by life, I can relate to two of the following quotes:

1. I’m fortunate to be an architect, as Architects have the ability to make dreams come true.

2. I would rather have a good reputation as a person than as an architect.

9. A hobby that sets you apart?

Spreading happiness – keeping everyone around me happy is a way of life or mannerism I prefer to keep myself productively engaged.

10. A message to those few young practicing Architects out there?

As budding architects, it’s important for us to be open to constant experimentation in the quest to create a distinctive design. Make sure to constantly listen and emphasize (customer) needs; this will make your designs exclusive each time.

11. Which design blog/page/handle do you follow avidly?

Archello is our preferred or most often visited blog.
