Interior décor suggestions: Winter Edition

With the end of the year knocking at our doorsteps and the cold finally settling into the weather, it is time for the holiday season again.  The skies most often greet us with greys and clouds, and most people seek to entertain themselves within the comfort of their homes. Since you plan on getting cosy inside your place, why not give it a makeover fit for the season?

To keep chill on the streets from permeating the indoors Studio B brings you a few freshly baked interior décor suggestions:

Colour and texture:

It is an unspoken understanding around the world that a select few colours belong to the holidays and most people adhere to this norm. On a closer note though, there is a whole spectrum of shades and textures that go unexplored but would get on tremendously with your winter decor. Go all out with a rich, saturated palette which underscores the warmth and texture of the design elements you adorn your space with. You need not order an extensive paint job to get the right colours instead get creative with the fabric spreads, be it the drapes, bedspreads or cosy blankets folded over your sofa’s backrest. A variety of winter textiles transcends conventional use and can be implemented on accessories and furniture like rugs, fur/wool upholstered stools, etc.

When in doubt, go with natural:

Take inspiration from elements that have been braving the weather from times immemorial yet never lose their relevance or tenor. In addition to being natural insulators, wood finishes and accents envelope the space with a practised solace that is hard to replicate. Without going overboard introduce a houseplant or a rustic wood side table, small elements that don’t need to introduce themselves as the accent features but subtly settle in with your living space.

Light it up:

Everyone acknowledges that appropriate lighting is a prerequisite for interior design, but do you have to amp it up to match the season? Quite simply, yes! With the days getting shorter and nights stretching at a leisurely pace, natural light becomes compounded. It only makes sense to brighten up your place with different lighting fixtures. You can opt for warm lights to inspire the feeling of warmth to fight the cold or even choose bright lights to make up for the lack of natural light. You can also experiment with placing metal elements strategically around the place so they reflect the light and make your place brighter.

A little change is good:

The onset of a new year is just around the corner and signifies a new beginning for many people. Go a step further in your seasonal decorations and make some rearrangements around your place. Isn’t it wonderful to place your furniture in a way that inspires deep conversations and fascinating storytelling? Revamp your favourite spaces and add layers, and throw in extra blankets, cushions, and rugs. It is also a good time to venture into traditional designs, and let your modern abode meander into age-old intricacies of traditions.

During a time when everyone is looking forward to spending precious time amidst friends and family, a venture into winter design trends to alleviate the experience seems particularly gratifying.  It’s time to bring the holiday cheer into your homes, so why not start with the design elements and the people will follow?
