“We do not want ideas for Smart cities or Smart villages” was the announcement made by India Next, a unique award platform under UltraTech’s Build Beautiful philosophy that invited ideas and solutions for a Smart society instead. Engineers and architects, as “future builders of India”, were called to make intelligent use of technology with available people and resources, for improved management of the urban and rural landscapes. This first-of-its-kind competition awarded, both at regional and national level, ingenious concepts and ideas that bridge the country’s urban and rural problems by focusing on a ‘collective’ future. After six months of rigorous screening by 16 jury members comprising eminent names like civil engineer Mahendra Raj, Raj Rewal and Sanjay Seth (senior director of TERI) among other noted industry stalwarts, India Next awarded 17 participants from the 400 detailed concept entries it received. Prominent architect David Fisher of Dynamic Architecture along with KK Maheshwari, MD, UltraTech Cement, felicitated the winners that included national winners Abraham John Architects, Nazish Abid Architect, and architecture student Prithviraj Nimbalkar, besides the regional winners. Pleased with the outcome, Maheshwari expressed, “In line with government’s vision of grand, beautiful and powerful India, UltraTech now seeks to unleash the power of ideas of architects, engineers and students. India Next was designed to give them a platform to showcase their vision of a Smart society, a beautiful society. We are proud to be part of this journey of India Next while we are galloping ahead building massive roads and bridges, airports and seaports, skyscrapers, small and big houses, all giving life to the dreams of designers, architects and engineers in creating a beautiful India.”
