A lunar-inspired oasis: Dubai’s 1,000-foot-tall moon-shaped luxury resort ready for the spotlight

Canadian-based architectural design and intellectual property licensor – Moon World Resorts Inc (MWR) is all set to create a masterpiece in Dubai. 

Read an exclusive interview with MWR’s Co-Founders Sandra G Matthews and Michael R Henderson about the making of this ultra-luxurious Moon project in Dubai.

1. What exactly were the client’s requirements?

Moon World Resorts Inc. acts as project IP licensor, creative directors and delivery agents. MOON is a turnkey delivery project. Client (Regional Licensee) input minimal. Project delivered with all component operators in place.

2. What is the size of the project?

Approximately 5.5m square feet – 516k square meters / height AGL 1000ft – 305m / sphere diameter 850ft – 259m.

3. What is the commercial design concept of the resort 

Unique fully integrated mega-scale destination resort incorporating multiple components. Signature attraction based on the delivery of space tourism to the masses. 435,600 square feet / 40,469 square meter authentic lunar surface built out with an active lunar colony.

4. Can you give us execution process? 

12 months pre-development program / 48 month build out. Single phase project.

5. Any major challenges faced?

Scale, building materials , sustainability, hvac,  people movement, life safety, parking, foot fall, technology, site issues, guest experience, permits and approvals……

6. How did you overcome those challenges?

Recruit a cohesive brilliant team comprised of the bestin Architecture, Engineering, Design, Art, Education, Longevity Wellbeing, Environmental stewardship etc.

7. How did you bifurcate various areas such as space/rooms/malls etc? 

Complex but seamless. Horizontal and vertical people movement systems throughout (note, no “mall” within MOON, boutique store section only)

8. What are the materials used/construction process?

Concrete, glass, steel, carbon fibre composite.

Unique superstructure designed to welcome 10m+ annual guests. A game changer, a disrupter. Worlds most environmentally sensitive mega scale destination resort.

9. Any quote you would like to add/highlight on its architecture? 

MOON will become a masterpiece of Architecture, Engineering, Design and Art, it will be a “Building of Global Significance.”
